Ferns in my garden

Since most of my yard is shady, I’ve come to know and love ferns.  I’ve planted a bunch of different varieties in my back shade border.  Now, late in the summer, their airy textures and subtle colorings really stand out.  The ‘Upside-down fern,’ planted against a native cherry tree, is my absolute favorite.  But the Japanese Painted Fern is growing on me too!  At the stream border, I’ve added Spikemoss, Big Brother fern (which is said to form a thicket and will be good for blocking the view of the slope), and an evergreen variety.

Here are some photos of the ferns in the shade and stream borders.
